Dej š'en litro (that could be translated as 'Gimme one more pint') Brass Band was founded by accident in Ljubljana in 1999: the first four members met at a students' party where they simply played some songs together. Later on, other experienced brass musicians from the Primorska region joined the group. Today the group has a total of 26 musicians, although each performance usually involves 13 players. The band's members are: Rok Nemanič, Matej Bažec, Miha Kovačič (trumpets), Bojan Volk, Damjan Jurič, Mitja Mahnič (saxophones), Bojan Krajšek, Nejc Kovačič (baritone), Matija Mlakar (trombone), Jernej Žakelj, Jure Nemec (tube) and Damijan Štolfa, David Šavle (percussion).

Repertiore

Its repertoire consists of different genres of music, from Slovene folk music and the traditional (gypsy) music of the Balkan region to jazz, pop and disco compositions. This music is played exclusively on brass instruments and percussion; the ensemble does not need any electrical equipment for its performance and can therefore move around freely within the audience and make the spirit of the whole performance more lively and interactive. In 2008 the band released its first album “Na mizo”.

Performances

The Dej še'n litro Brass Band annually performs about 25 concerts all around Slovenia and Europe (Italy, Croatia, Ireland, France, so far). They recently won second prize at the celebrated International Festival of Ethnic Music in Guča (Dragačevo region), Serbia. They also made a guest appearance at the Ana Desetnica International Street Theatre Festival in Ljubljana and both at the Jazz Cerkno Festival and Keltika International Festival run by the same organiser, Gabrijel Fest Cerkno. In past the band had also performed at Lent Festival, at Metelkova mesto Autonomous Cultural Zone, at Gronau Jazzfestival and on charity concert at Bohinj.
