The Library of the Department of Archaeology includes a wide range of publications focusing on the theoretical side of the subject and the scientific disciplines employed in archaeology (including as well as excavation techniques the science of materials and their conservation). It also includes many learned journals.


The first beginnins of this reference library date in the year Established:1923, when the Archaeological Seminar was established at the University of Ljubljana. Its founding fond was based on purchasing the collection from the private library of archaeologist Luka Jelić from Zagreb. After the Second World War the first structural changes are beign made. The inventary was made and the international exchange of the books began. In 1961 the library was moved to the head unit of Faculty of Arts at the Aškerčeva street, later in 1991 it was moved to its current location at the Zavetiška street.

In the past and in currently the library is subscribed to archaeological journals and reference magazine from 38 countries around the world. The access to some of the electronical editions of the magazine is possible at the computers in library's reading room.
