At its session on 30 May 2012, the Government of the Republic of Slovenia adopted the decision on the closure of the Consulate General of the Republic of Slovenia New York as well as the further four embassies (in Dublin, Lisbon, Stockholm, Helsinki) due to the economic crisis in Slovenia. In November 2012 the tasks of the Consulate General of the Republic of Slovenia in New York were assumed by the Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia Washington.

In 2015 the government opened the Consulate of the Republic of Slovenia in New York.


Selected cultural projects

In the field of arts and culture the Consulate General of the Republic of Slovenia New York regularly collaborated with Slovene artists who reside in New York, including residents at the residential flat in Brooklyn supported by the Slovene Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Fulbright Program grantees, performing arts students (jazz, acting, etc.) and other artists living in NYC and the USA. Some presentations and lectures were organised in collaboration with CEC Artslink.

Kažipot

The consulate also distributes a monthly electronic newsletter called Kažipot with information on Slovene cultural events in the New York area, available for subscription by e-mail. Likewise, those wishing to list their Slovene cultural events or activities in the events newsletter can contact the consulate with their announcement.
