The Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands was opened in 2001 as an official representative for the Dutch citizens living or residing in Slovenia. It provides a range of consular services, disseminates information about Netherlands in Slovenia and looks for cooperation opportunities in the field of economy and trade. Its tasks also include the promotion of Dutch arts and culture.

The legal basis for cooperation in culture, education and science between the two states was adopted in 1992 as a part of succession of the former republic of Yugoslavia.

Art and design

The Embassy has been working on a one-month Bilateral Focus held all over venues in Slovenia since 2001. Its aim was to promote economic solutions, trade, arts and culture from the Netherlands in Slovenia. Events during October were involved companies, cinemas, schools, faculties and art institutions from Ljubljana and major Slovenian towns. After ten successful years the October event was held for the last time in 2011.

However, the Embassy is still strongly present in promoting design, both industrial and graphic. In 2012 is supported the 22nd edition of Biennial of Design (BIO) at the Museum of Architecture and Design, entitled Design relations and curated by Margo Konings and Magriet Vollenberg.
