Established in 1989, the European Young Organists Competition takes place every three years within the framework of the European Union of Music Competitions for Youth (EMCY) and up to 2004 had featured 95 musicians from 20 European countries. Since 1992 it has been organised at Cankarjev dom Culture and Congress Centre in Ljubljana by the Commission for Music and Ballet Competitions (TEMSIG), also a member of EMCY. Musicians compete in two age groups – up to 19 and 20–25. The prizes went to young musicians from Germany, Slovenia, Russia, Denmark, and the Czech Republic. The deadline is usually at the end May.
