Though In Memoriam Prof. Peter Hafner Festival was first organised under this name in 2009, it was actually launched in 2005. It was called Alter-Fest back than, when it lasted only one evening and its line-up more or less consisted of punk bands. In the following years the festival widened its musical scope, inviting a more varied rock oriented line-up and gaining quite a recognition. That was in part due to the guidance and help from prof. Peter Hafner, a local music enthusiast, DJ, culture activist and mathematics professor, who than passed away in 2009. This led to the renaming of the festival that is since its inception held at the Rdeča ostriga Club.

After the initial punk orientation and the bands such as Center za dehumanizacijo (CZD), the festival started hosting a more varied selection of musical orientations, from electronics to hip hop, bringing to stage not only some of the best alternative Slovenian acts but also a number of bands from abroad. Of the local ones, one can mention Dubzilla, Moweknowledgement, Demolition Group, Koala Voice, We Can't Sleep At Night, Coma Stereo, Uršula Ramoveš in Fantje z Jazbecove grape, New Wave Syria, Bakalina, N'Toko, Marko Brecelj and Ewok. Of the more memorable foreign acts, there are Rambo Amadeus, Damir Avdić, Punčke, Repetitor, Bad Copy, Erotic Biljan & His Heretics and Vlasta Popić.

In 2013, the festival has been extended to one week, with additional programme such as movie screenings, theatre performances and graphics exhibitions. A aprt of the programme is now also held at the coourtyard of the Loka Castle.
