The Band was launched in 1985 and subsequently performed a successful series of concert performances, going on to win the Golden Plaque in competition with adult brass orchestras in Maribor. In 1989 the Band won third prize at a competition in Göteborg, Sweden, and in 1990 it won prizes in Portorož, Slovenia and in the Netherlands. In 1991 it was successful at a competition in Hamar, Norway, and in 1994 the Band won the highest prize in a competition at Breisgach, Germany, involving 50 youth orchestras from 13 countries. More recently in 2000 the Koper Brass Orchestra led by Darij Pobega won first prize at a competition in Nürnberg.
