Presented by the Contemporary Dance Association Slovenia since 2013, the Ksenija Hribar Awards honour professionals in the field of contemporary dance in Slovenia whose excellence and innovative work importantly contributes to the quality and development of contemporary dance in Slovenia. The awards are bestowed by an expert jury at the closing event of the biennial Gibanica (Moving Cake) Festival of Slovene Dance.

The awards are named after choreographer and dancer Ksenija Hribar (1938–1999), who was the driving force behind the struggle for the institutionalisation and professionalisation of contemporary dance in Slovenia.

Mission

The awards aim to encourage an overall development of the field of contemporary dance and are conferred on dancers, choreographers, dance pedagogues, critics, producers, light, set, and sound designers.

In 2015 the Contemporary Dance Association Slovenia and the Slovenian Theatre Institute launched a series of talks with individual recipients of the awards.
