This Memorial Room is dedicated to soldier and poet General Rudolf Maister-Vojanov (1874-1934), who towards the end of World War I organised local volunteers and seized control of the city of Maribor and the surrounding region of Lower Styria, thus securing it for the newly formed Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes.

In 1963 a 25 metre-high wooden tower was erected at Voličina in memory of General Maister-Vojanov. Then in 1981 the wooden tower was replaced by a new 17 metre-high metal panoramic tower. This was followed in 1985 by the refurbishment of the nearby Štupič Villa, in which the general used to spend his holidays. Restored and furnished in period style, it contains a thematic exhibition entitled General Maister-Vojanov – soldier, politician, poet. The exhibition was renovated in 1999.
