While the first festival of 2002 invited individual performers from different improvisational theatre groups to stage international improvisational shows in mixed groups, the second festival of 2003 was a thematic one, based on the concept of character in improvisational theatre. Performances and workshops were given by Unexpected Productions (Seattle, USA), Theater im Bahnhof (Graz, Austria), Improvvisazione teatrale italiana (Bologna, Italy) and Isar148 (Munich, Germany), and improvisers from all around the globe explored the process of creating and developing characters for the final show of the festival. The theme of the 2008 festival was Open/Closed and featured collectives Company Blu (Italy), Stella Polaris (Finland), Eric Davis (USA), etc. Every year the festival also presents a festival production, including guests of the festival. The 10th edition of the Naked Stage Festival has focused on the work of the improvisational group Narobov, which was the initiator of the festival, and featured a round table Collective Work in the Arts and an exhibition of Narobov's work.
Naked Stage International Improvised Theatre Festival is supported by Ljubljana Urban Municipality as well as by several foreign embassies and cultural centres in Slovenia.
