Orlek was established in 1990 in Zagorje ob Savi. The band is named after a hill at the very edge of Zagorje. They have recorded 9 cd-albums yet. With the latest, Anduht (which means anniversary in local language), they came out along the audio recordings with videos and special documentary: Orlek goes to Pakistan.

Music

The genre of Orlek's music will be a mixture of rock'n'roll and traditional Slovene dance called polka. Besides the traditional rock instruments ensemble uses also brass section and accordion, which places them into ethnic folk music category. They give special attention on their text which consists of social and humorous contents, rich in many expressions typical of the hard work and the life of a miner. The band calls their music "knap'n'roll" (knap means miner in local language). Recently, they have extended their authentic sound with classical instruments by recording a few songs with Celjski godalni orkester string orchestra.

Performances at festivals and awards

The ensemble has filled people from different cultural environments with enthusiasm in the festivals like: Tanz- & Folkfest Rudolstadt (Germany), Musik Fest Bethlehem (Pennsylvania, USA), Beijing Chaoyang International Spring Carnival (China); They have given successful concerts as well in Hungary, Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia and also in Slovenia. They are also well known for their club concerts. They performed in the legendary CBGB club in New York in USA.

Orlek was awarded by several awards, such as: Golden Bird Prize by the Liberal Academy of Slovenia and Golden Cock Award for their album Salamurca and the song To Kum.

The band members of Orlek are: Vlado Poredoš (vocals, guitar), [Jure Tori]] (keyboards, accordion), Bojan Bergant (guitar), Matej Fele (guitar), Mitja Tori (bass guitar, double bass), Sašo Marn (drums), Kristijan Adamlje (saxophone), Ečo Matko (trombone) and Janez Tori (trumpet).
