[[Pionirska - Centre for Youth Literature and Librarianship]] has been part of the old Pionirska Library since 1948. In the 1960s it became the national centre for collecting and distributing data on Slovene youth literature and textbooks for this field of research. The collections comprise: the archive of youth literature (original Slovene books and translations), the archive of Slovene youth literature translated into foreign languages, and a collection of foreign languages picture books. The Pionirska Centre organises regular monthly meetings of school librarians, prepares exhibitions (especially on the occasion of 2 April, the International Day of Children's Books), collaborates with [[Reading Badge of Slovenia Association]] and the [[Slovene Institute for Adult Education]] on projects related to reading, literacy, youth literature and librarianship, prepares bibliographies, promotes youth literature via lectures and presentations, and collaborates with [[International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY)]]. The Centre prepares and publishes the annual Recommendatory List: an Overview of Youth Books and organises monthly 'Professional Wednesdays' focusing on youth literature. It also organises the national bid for the Most Popular Youth Literature writer, involving around 30,000 elementary schoolchildren, and the national MEGAKVIZ programme for elementary schools, which tests knowledge on significant Slovene personalities. | [[Pionirska - Centre for Youth Literature and Librarianship]] has been part of the old Pionirska Library since 1948.
