The Ministry's support for Intermedia arts aims at supporting artistic work which involves IT, developing cultural resources and non-formal forms of education in the field. Financial support is given to cultural programmes and projects of non-governmental cultural organisations or individuals that are active in the field of new media art. Priority is given to programmes and projects (production, post-production, international co-operation and festivals) that use multimedia to create innovative artistic work and involve interactivity with the audience.
The support of the Ministry takes various forms, including four-year programme support for outstanding intermedia arts producers (2010–1013), four-year project support for multi-annual projects (2010–1013), project grants or subsidies, and grants for residencies via annual open calls. There is also an annual open tender for NGO vocational training initiatives.
Grants include also international cooperation projects, while individual freelance artists can apply for a residency at the Ministry's New York, Berlin, London or Vienna studios.
Assessment of programme and project applications is made by a three-member expert jury on intermedia arts appointed by the Minister.
The Section for Intermedia Arts also prepares a special annual call targeting multimedia regional centres around Slovenia that promote creative usage and accessibility of IT. From 2004 to 2006 the co-funding from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) facilitated the development of the M3C Multimedia Centres Network of Slovenia to cover all regions. Today there are 17 multimedia centres in the network.
