The Slovene National Study Library in Klagenfurt was originally established in 1927 as the Central Library of the Slovene Education Association. Today, the library is the largest public library with the Slovene library material in Austria.

History in brief

The very first beginnings of Slovene libraries in Carinthia date back to 1920s. In 1927 the Slovene Education Association, formerly known as the Slovene Christian Social Association, founded the first central library, which later became the Slovene National Study Library. During the Second World War and the Third Reich a large part of the library fond was destroyed or confiscated. Gradually, the library was reconstructed and the fond was increasing. In 1997, the library became a member of COBISS - Slovene Virtual Library network.
