Sound Disobedience [Neposlušno], launched in 2012, describes its creed as an aim to facilitate conditions for music risk-taking and improvisation. It was founded by Sploh Institute, which has been working on improvised music and theatre performing arts production since 1999 and has in recent years been successfully setting up the Con-Fine Aperto concert series and a regular workshop called RR–Raziskava, refleksija [Search and Reflect]. Both of these have been then expanded by this festival, which is in a way their condensed form.

By way of concerts, workshops, lectures, and other forms of communicating musical ideas and ideas on music, Sound Disobedience annually creates an international programme, which is housed at the Španski borci Culture Centre.

Festival programme

Of the hosted musicians, one can first name the UK musician Eddie Prévost, who was also the inspiration for the above mentioned Search and Reflect series and who led the workshops during the first edition of the festival. Other foreign guests include John Tillbury (UK), Tristan Honsinger (NE), Christof Kurzmann (AU), Martin Küchen (SW), Okkyung Lee (USA/KOR) and a number others.

Some of the local improvisers playing at Sound Disobedience were Ana Kravanja, Irena Tomažin, Samo Kutin, Neža Naglič and actually most of the other musicians who are currently active in this vein of music. One of them is the trio Drašler/Karlovčec/Drašler, who have in 2013 presented their album at the festival, which as such also complements the Sploh Institute publishing activities.

Sound Disobedience has a number of informal ties with other festival in Europe, but they are more or less temporary and booking based coordinations.
