Damijan Kracina

The Last Contemporary Art Museum was opened in July 2015 in the 200 year old house in the village of Logje, in the westernmost part of Slovenia. Here lived the grandmother of sculptor Damijan Kracina who decided to rearrange the house according to a principle of cabinets of curiosities of Wunderkammer, the Renaissance precursors to museums. This is not a coincidence, but a clear-cut serendipity: Kracina's sculptures, graphic art and video often tackle a biotic diversity of animal world, and an ambiental setting off the beaten track is a perfect site for the afterlife of objects. While an exhibition goer gets immersed into the theatre of memory, recollecting past encounters with individual sculptures at various exhibitions venues, a tourist is taken by surprise as one stumbles upon a world of contemporary art far from the white cube gallery spaces.
