Unicum Contemporary Music Festival was for the first time organized in [[established::1998]] by the Slovenian Section of the International Society for Contemporary Music (ISCM) under the name ''Musica Danubiana''. The festival represented at that time the contemporary music of the European countries, geographically centred around Danube. Each years festival reached its peak in 2003 when it was organized directly after the World Music Days. Next year the festival was renamed in Unicum Contemporary Music Festival which is organized every second year. The main goal of the Festival is to connect the Slovenian composers with their colleagues from other countries. The Festival is always centred around the main theme - in 2010 this was devoted to music and different media (movie, internet, radio). The Festival takes place one week in autumn at different places in Slovenia, featuring local musicians and foreign ensembles.
