Unicum - festival sodobne glasbe
Pavel Mihelčič, Artistic Leader

The Unicum Contemporary Music Festival was organised for the first time in 1998 by the Slovenian Section of the International Society for Contemporary Music (ISCM) under the name Musica Danubiana. At that time the festival represented contemporary music of the European countries geographically centred around the Danube River. The annual festival reached its peak in 2003 when it was organised directly after the World Music Days. The following year the festival was renamed as Unicum Contemporary Music Festival and became a biennial event. The main goal of the festival is to connect Slovenian composers with their colleagues from other countries. The festival is always centred around a main theme – in 2010 this was devoted to music and different media (movie, Internet, radio). The Unicum Contemporary Music Festival takes place one week in autumn at different places in Slovenia, featuring local musicians and foreign ensembles.
