Once rarely preserved, vernacular architecture has become a source of inspiration and a means of recovering lost construction and craft knowledge. In Slovenia, it displays diverse characteristics due to regional, climatic, social and cultural differences. The list below provides the examples of vernacular architecture preserved as subjects of conservation for their exemplary qualities (such as the splendidly presented Kavčnik_Homestead in Zavodnje near Šoštanj and the typical miner's house in the town of Idrija) or for their cultural significance (such as the birthplaces of notable Slovene men and women, including the first Slovene film star Ita Rina, who appeared in the film Erotikon in the late 1920s).
