The Faculty of Design was established in 2005 in Ljubljana as a private independent institution of higher education. Since 2011 it is an associated member of the University of Primorska. A study programme of Interior Design, Visual Communications, and Textiles and Fashion Design was conceived in accordance with the Bologna declaration standards following the example of comparable European programmes. The programmes are interdisciplinary and based on team work. The aim is to qualify designers with the necessary knowledge that leads to innovative design solutions.


International cooperation

The Faculty of Design organises a number of workshops, guest lectures of professors from foreign partner institutions as well as student and staff exchange.

The faculty has participated since 2006 in the European Lifelong Learning Programme within the Erasmus programme and collaborates with partner institutions from Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, France, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Turkey, and the United Kingdom. In line with the Erasmus University Charter, up 12 students of the Faculty of Design have studied abroad, while prior to 2010, 8 students had done their training programme in different EU countries. In addition, 12 members of Ljubljana teaching staff have taught abroad and 5 administrative employees have received additional training at foreign partner institutions.

Since 2008 the Faculty of Design has participated in international events with institutions from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Estonia, Germany, the Netherlands, Russia, Scotland, Serbia, and Switzerland.

The faculty is a member of several international education groups and is currently in the process of establishing one of its own, the A.L.I.C.E. (Architecture Landscape Interiors Culture) programme. The Faculty of Design is a member of the World Design Organization since 2017.
