As both personal and business partners Lena Krušec and Tomaž Krušec founded the architectural office ARK Arhitektura Krušec in 2002; Vid Kurinčič has been a member of the team since 2004. They graduated at the Faculty of Architecture, University of Ljubljana, where Tomaž later worked as an assistant, and since 2010 holds lectures as a professor. Today ARK Arhitektura Krušec is one of the most acknowledged Slovene studios, presenting good practices in contemporary and sustainable architecture, collecting prestigious prizes, and gaining international recognition – the Farewell chapel at Teharje cemetery was nominated for the 2009 Mies van der Rohe Prize, the New market in Celje was selected among 40 projects for the 2010 European Prize for Urban Public Space and shortlisted for 2011 Mies van der Rohe Prize.


Awards

In 2010 ARK Arhitektura Krušec received the prominent Plečnik Award for the new Faculty of Biotechnology building that was nominated also for the 2011 EU Prize for contemporary architecture/Mies van der Rohe Award 2011. In 2007 the office received the Plečnik Medal for the building of the Alpine hotel Celjska koča as well as the Golden Pencil Award, granted annually by the Chamber of Architecture and Spatial Planning of Slovenia (ZAPS). The studio received several other awards, among them also the Golden Pencil Award for the "Skalne vile" apartment building in Celje, and the Farewell chapel at Teharje cemetery (2008). In 2005 the studio won the Interior of the Year title for the Pilates Centre on Wolfova ulica in Ljubljana centre.
