Awards
The European Prize for Urban Public Space, a biennial competition organised by seven European institutions, was awarderd to ATELIERarhitekti in 2012 for their renovation work on the banks of the Ljubljanica river in Ljublana. This joint project also featured contributions from Boris Podrecca, BB arhitekti, Atelje Vozlič, DANS Arhitekti, Trije arhitekti, Medprostor arhitekti, and Urbi.
In 2012 Jurij Kobe and Rok Žnidaršič received the Plečnik Award for their renovation of the former Minorite convent, which now houses the Maribor Puppet Theatre.
Background
Apart from his duties at ATELIERarhitekti Jurij Kobe is also a professor at the Faculty of Architecture, University of Ljubljana. His early work includes the renovation of the Cekin Mansion, which now houses the National Museum of Contemporary History and work on a number of schools. The Secondary School of Nursing in Ljubljana was a finalist for the Mies van der Rohe Prize for best European architecture in 1998.
ATELIERarhitekti took shape following a long period collaboration with Rok Žnidaršič and Jerneja Fischer Knap. The two would go on to establish the Medprostor arhitekti studio, while ATELIERarhitekti transformed into an open collective of architects who work simultaneously on the same project.
