[[Celje Dance Forum]] originated in 1975-76 as the dance ensemble of choreographer Damir Zlatar Frey, one of the pioneers of Slovene dance theatre. At that time the group received great acclaim, and later, as Dance Theatre Celje, they created numerous projects which were fundamental for the development of Slovene dance theatre (eg Metastasis, Triptych). Since 1980 the group has been led by dancer Goga Stefanovič-Erjavec. The group subsequently became Celje Dance Forum and has since developed into an important educational centre for contemporary dance. Many young dancers begin their education here and then continue their studies at academies abroad, in New York, Salzburg, Brussels, Amsterdam, London or Vienna. The productions of Celje Dance Forum have been presented internationally and have been awarded prizes. Recent performances include King Urban, The Ropes, Interstik and Horoscop. Celje Dance Forum is also engaged in movement workshops for children, young people and adults (contemporary dance, oriental dances and traditional dances).
