The Kaverljag Summer Workshops have been organised every year since 1998 at the studio of painter Aleš Sedmak for students of the Academy of Fine Arts and Design and for fine arts students of the Faculty of Education of the University of Ljubljana. In the recent years it has become international, involving students from European academies and is focused on the interdisciplinary approach to ecological topics.

Variety of workshops

In 2004 a workshop in scientific illustration took place, with tutors also coming from graphic design and natural science faculties and institutes. In the same year professors and students of the fine arts academies in Zagreb, Katowice, Krakov, Budapest and Ljubljana worked together at Kaverljag within the framework of the Central European Exchange Programme for University Studies (CEEPUS). A sculpture workshop was also held under the tutorship of Mirko Bratuša, with the aim of establishing monuments in Lucija and Izola to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the London Memorandum.

In the recent years the workshop on letters stone-carving was held under the mentorship of Marko Drpić (in 2009) and The Insects for the Blind and Visually Impaired (in 2011). The latter involved 11 international mentors and gathered the students from the Academy of Fine Arts and Design, Fine Art Academy from Lecce (Italy), Jan Matejko Academy of Fine Arts from Kraków (Poland), and from Moholy–Nagy University in Budapest (Hungary).
