Established in 1979, the Historical Society of Celje is a vocational organisation of professional historians, scholars from other fields of the humanities and social sciences, and others interested in the history of Celje. It currently has 101 members. The Society: (i) encourages collaboration between historians and others interested in history; (ii) organises conferences and offers public lectures; (iii) provides educational activities and assistance in research projects to its members; (iv) promotes research in Slovene history, particularly the history of Celje and its surroundings; (v) promotes new scholarship in the theory of history and sociology; (vi) collaborates with teachers of history and offers assistance in teaching history and other related subjects; (vii) actively supports collecting, preserving and promoting cultural heritage; (viii) publishes materials about the protection of cultural heritage; (ix) co-operates with the Historical Association of Slovenia and other affiliated associations in Slovenia and abroad; (x) publishes a biannual journal History for Everyone; and (xi) supports book series in which historians from the younger generation can publish works that either deal with the history of Celje or conceptually follow recent trends in the Slovene social sciences.
