The [[Institute of Cultural History]] was founded within the Scientific Research Centre of the Slovene Academy of Sciences and Arts in September 1999, initially as the Institute for Biography Studies and Bibliography. In 2005 it was renamed as the Institute of Cultural History in order to achieve recognition in a broader scientific context. The most important project of the Institute has been Slovene Biographic Lexicon (15 books with around 5,000 articles covering the period 1925-1991) that presents a rich archive of biographical data on Slovene personalities and also some personalities abroad related to Slovene culture. Further important projects include Lives and Works - biographical and bibliographical studies, and the Slovene bio-bibliographical database in electronic format (up to 2007 containing details of about 12,800 personalities). The Institute collects and updates its data, develops new ways of presenting it and prepares interdisciplinary methodological studies and comparative studies.
