One of the pioneers of modern Slovene graphic Miha Maleš (1903–1987) had donated 2,600 of his works to Kamnik town, and in 1979 a gallery bearing his name was opened in a renovated burgher house at 2 Glavni trg in Kamnik. Since than the Miha Maleš Collection Gallery exhibits his works in two floors, occasionally prepares exhibitions confronting his work with other artists and phenomenons familiar to art of Maleš.


Collection

The collection contains all of Maleš' graphic work and a selection of his paintings and other materials. The painter`s work is presented in occasional exhibitions and accompanying catalogues. A selection of works is displayed from different periods of the artist's life, techniques and themes.

Programme

Beside the collection, Miha Maleš Collection Gallery occasionally features also exhibitions that systematically presents mono graphic researches of not yet solo presented local artists. Between 2007 and 2009 the gallery prepared in the cooperation with Pilon Gallery and Maribor Art Gallery series of exhibitions exposing women artists creating between 1918 and 1945 in Slovenia. Painters and sculptress as Henrika Šantel, Avgusta Šantel ml., Helena Vurnik, Anica Sodnik Zupanec, Elda Piščanec, Mira Pregelj in Bara Remec were presented. This exhibition was also featured in other project partner galleries.
