The Cultural Activities Department is responsible for cultural activities, social and health care, education and sports. The Kocevje Union of Cultural Societies and the local unit of the Public Fund for Cultural Activities facilitate the activities of numerous cultural associations.
Each year the Centre for Slovenian Literature organises a three-weeks residency of a foreign writer in Kočevje.
