The emphasis of the library is on reference publications on art theory, painting, sculpture, graphic art, photography, performance, video, new media, and architecture. Its collection of exhibition catalogues from all of the galleries in Slovenia as well as numerous international institutions (mostly obtained on an exchange basis) are of particular importance. Additionally, over 180 specialised magazine and newspaper titles from the areas of the library´s interest are available to its users. The library also keeps the books and legacies of individual Slovene artists, including Rihard Jakopič, G.A. Kos, Miha Maleš, Stane Kregar, Slavko Smolej, and Lojze Spacal.
A range of card catalogues and indices provides bibliographic access to the library collections. The card catalogue includes listing by author, artist, title, subject, museum, and gallery. A study room with 12 seats is available to library users. Most of the books and exhibition catalogues in the library are available on open shelves, some of the material can be taken out of the library. An online bibliographic database representing 2 per cent of the library's collection is available on the Internet at the COBISS - Slovene Virtual Library.
Culture.si offers information on Slovene cultural producers, venues, festivals and support services, all in one place. It encourages international cultural exchange in the fields of arts, culture and heritage.
