Panika Records had its first release in 1988. It was a record by Romana Kranjčan, a still-active singer and writer of (mostly) children songs, a music genre in which the label has now been specialised for about a quarter of a century. Among many others, the writer, poet, and singer Svetlana Makarovič has recorded and released her stories for the label.

Besides publishing music, recorded stories or texts for children, till 2000 the label released some other, pop and rock oriented musicians like Ritem Planet, Cedevita, Vili Resnik, and Niowt. For a time they also acted as a distributor for some Slovene bands such as TerraFolk and for a number of foreign (mainly metal) bands, whose albums they distributed in Slovenia.
