The Academy of Fine Arts and Design established its Research Institute in 2001 as a platform for basic, applicative and research activities in the fields of visual arts and design theories as well as art history and restoration science.


The Research Institute organises scientific symposia and conferences and publishes study manuals (Scripta series) and scientific monographs (Acta series). In the latter, for example, The Glossary of Slovene Art from 1945. Terms, Movements, Groups and Tendencies was published in collaboration with Študentska založba Publishing House as a result of a reviewed pedagogical process involving over fifty art students and theoreticians of a younger generation (2009, in Slovenian).
