Rokus Publishing House was founded in 1991 and is the largest publisher of textbooks and learning materials in Slovenia. In 2004 they were acquired by the German publishing house Ernst Klett Sprachen, upon which Rokus Klett Publishing House was established. Subsequently, new branch offices were opened in Belgrade, Zagreb, and Sarajevo. Their publications are available through their online bookstore at Knjigarna.com.

Publishing programme

The company's principal activity has been educational publishing, namely textbooks and supplementary materials for primary and secondary schools as well as teaching materials for teachers. A consistent effort is being made to develop electronic textbooks, ready for use in interactive whiteboards. iRokus and Lilibi and 9letka.net are online portals where users can access learning materials, didactic games, animations, worksheets, and much more. Rokus has won prestigious Slovene awards for their outstanding design, as well as international awards for innovation and quality in the field of didactic material.

The series Pons comprises foreign language dictionaries, e-courses, and textbooks, available for English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Russian, and Slovenian. These constitute excellent resources for individual learning and supplementary materials in schools and language courses. The websites pons.si and pons.eu offer free-of-charge translation dictionaries in a range of language combinations.

Rokus Klett is also renowned for issuing popular science magazines. In 2003 they commenced publishing National Geographic Junior, in 2006 National Geographic Slovenia and National Geographic Mini. In 2014 in cooperation with National Geographic, Rokus Klett publishes the first truly interactive learning pack for biology, which opens the new iRokus+ series. Since September 2014, 38.98 % of all primary school 8th-graders have used the new pack. The quality of the pack has also been acknowledged by an international panel of judges – at the Frankfurt Book Fair where Biology 8 iRokus+ was awarded the prestigious Gold BELMA award (Best European Learning Materials Award) in the category of digital learning materials.

In addition, they hold a number of seminars, symposia, and other events for teachers with a view to presenting new learning materials, textbooks, and didactic approaches.

Awards

A book by Kozma Ahačič titled Jezični možje – Zgodba o slovenskem jeziku (The Men of Tongues – The Story of the Slovenian Language), came up as the winner of Minsk Book Fair in 2016. The book received the award for the best children's book in a Slavic language within the field of history and culture of the Slavic peoples. In 2019 Rokus Klett Publishng house received SPP award bestowed by Slovene Human Resources Development and Scholarship Fund for employers who pay special attention to older employees. They have also received a bronze award by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Slovenia (GZS) for innovation called Digitalisation of learning environment in 2018. A year before iRokus+ interactive learning materials received a German Economy Award awarded by the Slovenian-German Chamber of Commerce for the best technical, entrepreneurial and intellectual innovations in Slovenia.
