The first secondary school of this type was established in 1958 as Secondary Textile School, today the Secondary School for Design and Photography, Ljubljana is quite popular among young people in Maribor, in the North Eastern region of Slovenia. The school runs five educational programmes: hairdressing, media communications, fashion design, industrial design and graphic design. The School is housed in the new building. The school is attended by around 700 students.
The school cooperated with a German school for hairdressers and Maribor pupils visited Germany. They also joined METOD-Metatool project for educational design with Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, University of Maribor and were regularly involved in the PISA project.
