Propositions for the awards can be made by all Slovene professional theatres, the Slovene Drama Artists Association, Academy of Theatre, Radio, Film and Television (AGRFT), and the Public Fund for Cultural Activities of the Republic of Slovenia.
Some recent recipients of the Sever Award are Uroš Fürst, Jana Zupančič, Primož Pirnat, Saša Mihelčič, Peter Musevski, Nataša Matjašec Rošker, and Renato Jenček for achievements in professional theatres and Blaž Šef, Maruša Kink, Nina Ivanišin, Jure Henigman, and Žiga Udir for student acting creations.
