Today, the library is the largest public library with the Slovene library fond in Austria. The Library fond consists of more than 130,000 units and of more than 500 titles of Slovene periodical press. Since 1997, the library is a member of COBISS - Slovene Virtual Library network and has launched its catalogue also on-line. Since 1977, the library is a member of Reading Badge of Slovenia Association.

Background

The very first beginnings of Slovene libraries in Austrian Carinthia date back to 1920s. In 1927 the Slovene Education Association, formerly known as the Slovene Christian Social Association, founded the first central library, which later became the Slovene National Study Library. During the Second World War and the Third Reich a large part of the library fond was destroyed or confiscated. Gradually, the library was reconstructed and the fond was increasing.
