It is responsible for guaranteeing the suitability of legal solutions and their enforcement, and ensuring that enquirers receive answers to their linguistic questions. The sector co-operates with scientific, educational and other organisations and associations dealing with linguistic issues and with similar organisations in other countries.
Apart from the regulative role the service also provides incentive for the educational and technological projects for the development of Slovenian language. It has supported numerous projects, among them Slovene fiction on Wikisource, Termania.net or Razvezani jezik - The Unleashed Tongue.
Slovenia is a member of the European Federation of National Institutions for Language (EFNIL).
