Celje Gallery of Contemporary Art manages also the exhibition space Hodnik (Corridor Gallery), which is known for its exclusive presentation of young and fresh positions of regional artists. The presentation is featured for duration of just few days (less than a week). Recently there was featured the project of the artist book of DLUC members (one of momently three strongest associations of its kind in Slovenia), what was stimulated also by the traditional call for the artist books of the P.A.R.A.S.I.T.E. Institute. Solo recent presentations includes Borut Holland, Željko Opačak, Bojana Križanec, etc.
The Gallery hosts also creative workshops for children and youth, as well as the so-called 'student premieres'. Students and graduates of fine arts academies get a chance to present their work to the public for the first time, gain their first experience in the public sphere and their first references.
Celje Gallery of Contemporary Art is located on the fringes of the old town centre and is part of the architectural complex of buildings that once formed the foothill castle of the Counts of Celje.
The Gallery is preparing approximately 10 exhibitions annual. In 2009 the Celje Gallery of Contemporary Art featured 4 solo and 5 group exhibitions, most of them were prepared by house curators, some of them were featured simultaneously also in other spaces of the Celeia Institute - Centre for Contemporary Arts, like Likovni salon Celje. The Gallery practises cooperation with curators from Slovenia, sometimes also abroad. Special attention goes to curators of the the AIR residency.
Concerning group exhibitions, the Gallery is practising the systematic approach to the topics and different kind of phenomenon and is usually preparing shows, where national and international artists are mixed - like in the show Prohibited death in 2009, where the work of five Slovene artists of different generations was exhibited with foreign art positions including Zuzanna Janin, Teresa Margolles, Eleonore Phillips, Kate Pollard, etc.
Solo shows are usually dedicated to artist connected with the town. In 2009 the gallery presented works of Slovene artists of middle and older generation like Stane Jagodič, Marjan Krošl, and Marijan Tršar.
Besides the exhibition programme, the Celje Gallery of Contemporary Art collects works of contemporary Slovene visual arts. The permanent exhibition has gradually grown; at first it was contributed to by important Slovene artists, later on it has been regularly expanded with work by artists who either live in the Celje region, are natives of the city or otherwise connected with the town. The gallery currently possesses over 200 works. They are occasionally presented to the public within group thematic exhibitions.
