The journal is co-financed by the Ministry of Culture and the Slovene Research Agency (ARRS). In 2006 the journal became a part of international ABC-CLIO social studies online database.
Archives publishes articles on the methods of archival work, the regulations on archives and archival material, the history of archives, as well as the conservation, restoration and reproduction of documents. The journal also monitors the development of archival science in the world and current issues on the protection and conservation of new formats of information on computer media. Writers from other fields of research are invited to contribute as well.
