Just as in the [[Cankarjev dom Gallery]] (CD Gallery), the exhibitions in the Small Gallery also often correspond to multimedia events and festivals of the main Cankarjev dom programme. Within the ''Armenia Close Up Festival'' in spring 2010 the Small Gallery featured the exhibition of Armenian photographer Ruben Mangasaryan, the editor-in-chief of ''National Geographic Traveler Armenia''. Further, as part of the ''Mexico in Ljubljana Festival'' (Summer 2009) [[Dušan Arzenšek]], director and photography editor of ''Le Monde Diplomatique'' in Slovenian, exhibited his photographic explorations of the Mayan pyramids.

Although the 303 square-metre Small Gallery of the Cankarjev dom, Cultural and Congress Centre is located in one of the center's corridors, the gallery presents an important space of reference for photographic artists. The exhibition programme primarily encompasses the work of Slovene photographers, from the most eminent to the youngest.

Just as in the Cankarjev dom Gallery (CD Gallery), the exhibitions in the Small Gallery also often correspond to multimedia events and festivals of the main Cankarjev dom programme. The exhibitions are the accompanying part of the festivals and events taking place at the Cankarjev dom, Cultural and Congress Centre.

Although focused on Slovene authors, the Small Gallery also occasionally presents the work of foreign photographers;

In recent years the Small Gallery has cooperated with Photon Gallery and its project Photonic Moments – Month of Photography presenting the latest trends in Slovenian photography.

For two decades, up to 2013, the Foyer in Cankarjev dom hosted a popular Emzin Magazine Photography of the Year Competition annual exhibition.
