Based on mobility, inter-disciplinarity, participation the Celeia Institute – Centre for Contemporary Arts runs since 2005 the AIR - programme of residency for artists and curators from abroad with the aim of building a dialogue and cooperation between foreign and local artists as well as between art and the broader community. One year long residency offers accomodation and simbolic scholarship, it does not cover travelling costs. Since the beginning 3 residents took part of the programme.
The AIR programme emerged as a result of the need for a more active flow of people and ideas in the field of culture and art in Celje. The programme is conceived to encourages artists in residence to create ties and actively participate in the local community, as well as enable local artists to work in a foreign environment. This provides them with new contacts and new models of production and presentation.
The AIR programme is in the phase of the professionalisation. Among others there are intentions to bring the programme on the bileateral exchange level, so to cooperate with other residenciy programmes in Europe and world wide.
