The Centre for Theatre and Film Studies is part of the Academy of Theatre, Radio, Film and Television (AGRFT) in Ljubljana and performs documentary and research activities relating to theatre, radio, film and television.

The Centre’s resources comprise a specialised library which incorporates large theatre and film archives; all are available to students and other users.

Archive and mediatheque

The collection of the Centre for Theatre and Film Studies comprises around 36,000 books and magazines, 120,000 photographs, 8,000 films and videos, 88.000 theatre articles, 600 pieces of stage and costume design, etc.

The majority of items present artistic, research and pedagogic work of AGRFT since 1945, e.g. texts, sketches as well as recordings of the students' theatrical, film and TV productions. Here one can find documentation related to significant personalities such as a literary critic Josip Vidmar, a scenographer Bojan Stupica, a dancer Pino Mlakar, and stage directors Slavko Jan, Mile Korun.

The Centre preserves the legacy of the Partisan theatre during and after World War II, the legacy of an actor and director Emil Kralj, an actress Marija Vera, a donation by Fran Žižek (shooting scripts) and France Brenk (original films by Karl Grossmann).

In a mediatheque one can get a lot of reference material on Slovene, European and World film as well as visual material on the history of Slovene theatre and documentation on stagings in Slovene theatres (flyers, theatre leaflets, etc).

One can consult the archives of the FIRT (International Federation for Theatre Research) and SIBMAS (International Directory of Performing Arts Collections and Institutions).
