The [[Department of Painting, Academy of Fine Arts and Design|Department of Painting]] offers a four-year undergraduate programme with around 10-15 students graduating in Painting each year. Studies include three programmes: painting, graphic art and video and new media art (electronic digital technology, video image, video sculpture, video space, video net installations and 3D animations). For graduates a two-year MA programme in Painting, Graphic Art, Fine Art Technology or Video is offered. It is also possible to pursue studies leading to an MASci in Visual Arts Theory or a PhDSci in Fine Arts or Visual Arts Theory. Masters study lasts two years and doctoral study four years. Postgraduate students of video collaborate with the [[Faculty of Computer and Information Science, University of Ljubljana]]. Every year several workshops and colonies are organised for students of painting (eg [[Velenje Artists' Colony]]).

Department of Painting, Academy of Fine Arts and Design is the main educational institution for drawing and painting in Slovenia.

Program

The Department of Painting offers a reformed programme of study since 2009. According to the admission exam score about 20 students are excepted each year in the tree-year undergraduate programme. The main subject is choosen in the second year of study: painting, printmaking art (graphic art) or video and new media art, established as seperate departments in 2009.
