The very first beginnings of Sociology studies date in 1927/28 when the course on Sociology was lectured by the philosopher France Veber. In brief, after the sporadic attempts and after the Second World War there were a few courses in Dialectical and Historical materialism, taught by Cene Logar, Vladimir Seliškar and Jože Goričar . On the initiative of sociology study group at the Faculty of Arts and on the initiative of Dr. Boris Ziherl from Institute for Sociology, in the year 1960 the Department of Sociology was formally established. The major reorganisation of the Department followed shortly after. The study programme for independent profession in sociology was transfered to the later established Faculty of Social Sciences. The Department has its own library.
The students at the Department of Sociology are active in the sociological students' association Sociopatija (Sociopathy), which organises excursions, lectures and social events. Department
Culture.si offers information on Slovene cultural producers, venues, festivals and support services, all in one place. It encourages international cultural exchange in the fields of arts, culture and heritage. The portal and its content is owned and funded by the Ministry of Culture, funded by the European Union Recovery and Resilience Plan and developed by Ljudmila Art and Science Laboratory.
