Presenting an international selection of garage rock'n'roll acts since 2005, the Garage Explosion Festival is taking place at the Pekarna Cultural Centre. It has fast made its name by a profiled and consistent line-up. Besides extending its audiences musical horizons, it also serves as a platform for international musical and organisational networking and provides opportunities for younger bands to gain stage experiences. As such it has contributed much to the Maribor rock scene and its protagonists.

The event itself lasts only one day but is traditionally prolonged by the Garage Afterparty which is (usually) set in MKNŽ club in Ilirska Bistrica. The Afterparty hosts a partial selection of the main festivals line up, giving the bands more stage time than the packed time table of the main event allows. The Garage Foreplay festival also presents some of the artists that will later feature on the Garage Explosion itself. Otherwise set in Maribor, it was organized at the Klub Menza pri koritu in Ljubljana in 2008.

Programme

Musicians playing on the Garage Explosion stage are predominantly, but not exclusively, based in ex-Yugoslavia countries. Some of them are The Bambi Molesters (Croatia), Damir Avdić (Bosnia), Erotic Biljan & his Heretics (Croatia), DMT (Serbia), Concrete Worms (Serbia) and the Slovene bands Muškat Hamburg (they are actually a part of the group that organizes the festival), Res Nullius, Dicky B. Hardy, Tavžntroža etc. There were also guests from other EU countries and even the USA garage rock legends The Morlocks.
