The Faculty of Education of the University of Ljubljana was established in 1964 on the foundations laid by the former College of Education in 1947. The new Academy of Education provided two-year (associated degree) programmes for future primary school teachers, special educators and librarians. In 1972 the Academy of Education became a member of the University of Ljubljana. After more than 20 years of operation, the Academy gradually expanded its programmes of study so that in the mid 1980s some areas were transferred to the [[Faculty of Arts]] (languages, history, geography, librarianship) and the [[Academy of Music]] (music education), while those in the sciences have since been taught in conjunction with the Faculty of Science and Technology and the [[Faculty of Biotechnology]]. In 1991 the Academy of Education was renamed the Faculty of Education. From its inception until that date, the Academy’s two-year study programmes had produced 11,102 graduates. Today the Faculty seeks to overcome the traditional insularity of teacher training institutions, developing international collaborations in teacher education and training teachers for an augmented role that is in no way limited to the transfer of knowledge to students in a set subject. History

The new Academy of Education provided two-year (associated degree) programmes for future primary school teachers, special educators and librarians. In 1972 the Academy of Education became a member of the University of Ljubljana. After more than 20 years of operation, the Academy gradually expanded its programmes of study so that in the mid 1980s some areas were transferred to the Faculty of Arts (languages, history, geography, librarianship) and the Academy of Music (music education), while those in the sciences have since been taught in conjunction with the Faculty of Science and Technology and the Faculty of Biotechnology.

In 1991 the Academy of Education was renamed the Faculty of Education. From its inception until that date, the Academy’s two-year study programmes had educated 11,102 graduates. Today the Faculty seeks to overcome the traditional insularity of teacher training institutions, developing international collaborations in teacher education and training teachers for an augmented role that is in no way limited to the transfer of knowledge to students in a set subject. It has its own art gallery and library.
