| + | In September 2006 the former Academy of Education (Pedagoška akademija) of the [[University of Maribor]] was transformed into three faculties: the [[Faculty of Arts, University of Maribor|Faculty of Arts]], the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics and the [[Faculty of Education, University of Maribor|Faculty of Education]]. The latter is organised into five departments: Music, Visual Arts, Pre-School (Nursery) Education, Class Teaching (first three years of elementary school when all subjects are taught by one teacher) and Sport Trainers Education (for selected sports disciplines). The faculty offers two postgraduate programmes: Education Science and an MA in Class Teaching. It also publishes reference literature and a journal dedicated to elementary learning (''Revija za elementarno izobraževanje''). | ||

Background
Due to a continuous lack of professional workers in education the long-awaited Maribor Academy of Education was finally established in 1961. The academy was founded a decade before the University of Maribor, formally established in 1975. With the Bologna Process, the graduate and postgraduate programmes have adapted to changes in university teaching: the three-year BA, two-year MA, and three-year PhD programmes were fully introduced in 2010.
International cooperation
Student exchange at the Faculty of Education is possible within the framework of ERASMUS/SOCRATES, CMEPIUS and national student and academic exchange. The faculty co-operates with the Faculty of Arts in the International Society of Education through Arts (InSEA). As a part of the University of Maribor the faculty is involved in many international networks, including the European Network of Academic Sport Services (ENAS) and the University Network of the European Capitals of Culture (UNEECC).
