The Institute for Mediterranean Heritage was established in 2003 as a unit of the Science and Research Centre of Koper at the University of Primorska. The institute's interdisciplinary research approach (anthropology, history, art history, archaeology, ethnology, etc.) focuses on heritage of Istria settlements and Adriatic area. The Institute is also present in the capital with a branch office and also houses Annales Publishing House bookshop.


International cooperation

The Institute conducted several international research projects with various partners from the region: neolithic research Gorlevo next to Skopje, Story about Nesle on the situation of shepherds in the Skadar lake region, the EU funded European Fluvial Heritage and Venetian Republic Heritage.

The Institute is also co-organizing the International Summer School of Museology, held in Piran and hosted at the University of Primorska in cooperation with Forum of Slavic Cultures International Foundation and European Museum Academy.
