Jože Udovič Public Library, Cerknica covers three municipalities of Inner Carniola - Cerknica, Loška dolina and Bloke - and functions as a central cultural institution for the region. Taking its name from the poet, translator and essayist Jože Udovič, the library has two branches in Nova vas and Stari trg and holds a total of 70,000 books, periodicals and multimedia items. Housed in a 320 square metre building, the library offers Internet and database access via 10 computer terminals and incorporates a 25-seat reading room with 180 periodical titles and a 5,000-item mediatheque. The library offers inter-library lending services and organises regular events, including literary evenings and lectures.
