Ofis Arhitekti in Ljubljana was formed by Rok Oman and Špela Videčnik in 1996. Both studied architecture at the Faculty of Architecture, University of Ljubljana before continuing their studies at the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London. Their work negotiates between architectural projects in different scales (from 30 to 50,000 square metres), covering performing arts and design.

Ofis Arhitekti has participated in several Venice Architecture Biennials, in the 1st Beijing Architecture Biennial of 2004, and in the London Architecture Biennial of 2006. Since 2001 the company has presented its works at lectures in Ljubljana as well as in Croatia, the UK, Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, China, and the USA. Their work is published in main architectural magazines, presented at several international exhibitions, and has been awarded many prizes.

Projects

Their current projects are of various programme and location. The project Basket Apartments in Paris provided student dormitories with 192 studios in Paris' 19th district as part of the new urban development of the city. Ofis Arhitekti are also one of the participating architects of the new Cultural Centre of European Space Technologies (KSEVT) in Vitanje. Furthermore the studio is building Alpine ski apartments and developing interiors for new concept stores for the jewellery franchise Zlatarna Celje.

Past projects by Ofis include an under-extension to a villa in Bled; the Old Oaks 19th-century lakeside villa extension project; and in 2004 their most prominent work, a contemporary extension to the City Museum of Ljubljana and renovation of the old museum space using an innovative formal and experiential vocabulary. Other projects include 650 Apartments in Ljubljana, in which the exactness of the modular was explored and translated into a composition of the flexible and the inflexible, creating a delightful apartment complex; and Housing on the Coast, a low-cost housing project along Izola Bay which successfully employed the humble modular unit. The awarded Football stadium Maribor is just a beginning of their sport-architecture followed by the stadium FC BATE in Belarus (2012).

The studio takes part in various architectural competition and also explores scenography in the frame of performances, installations, and theatre.

Awards

Ofis arhitekti has been awarded many prizes, including the Piranesi Award for its 16 x 68 Housing Block in Piran (2000), the Young Architect of the Year Award (London, 2000), the Design Vanguard Award (2001), the designation as one of five young architectural offices 'to look out for' in the Guardian (2001), the Architectural Record Award, New York (2001), the RIBA Architectural Review and Design Awards, London (High Commendation for the City Museum Ljubljana, 2004), the Miami Biennial Honors for Villa Under-Extension in Bled (2005), the European Grand Prix at the Innovation Awards, Monaco (2006), and the Mies van den Rohe Awards (Commendation for Housing on the Coast, 2007; Football stadium Maribor, 2008; Shopping roof apartments, 2008).
