Open House Slovenia Festival (OHS) was launched in established::2010 when it created a selection of outstanding buildings to be open to the general public for the first time. Since then the festival every year showcases a new selection of buildings round Slovenia, from private houses to educational or cultural institutions, or business, sports, tourism and health facilities or open spaces. ==About the festival==

Each year, a committee of architecture, urbanism and construction professionals chooses the buildings that are to be featured in the annual Open House Slovenia Festival. These buildings are most often ones that were previously given various prizes or honourable mentions or were otherwise recognised as outstanding works. They make up roughly half of the presented buildings (about a hundred of them each year), with the other being the ones already shown in the previous years.

The OHS Festival is an annual three-day event that showcases over 80 architectural projects and open spaces, selected by an expert jury and viewed by visitors under the expert guidance of architects, investors, users and experts who have significantly contributed to the success of the project. Resident houses, public architecture, various renovations and sustainable architecture get to be presented in situ, with the visitors thus getting a much deeper insight into contemporary architectural practices as well as the related technologies.

Organised tours are guided by architects or building owners or users, with more than 250 architects, owners, event organisers and 50 volunteers participating in the event every year. All events are free, with the private houses visits needing to be pre-booked online.

The Open House Slovenia (OHS) initiative makes a part of the international Open House Worldwide network, comprising already 30 cities round the world (the Slovene node of the network is the only one focusing on the whole country, which in itself is still rather small). The initiative began in London as early as 1992.

Today the expanded Open City initiative offers architectural events throughout the whole year, raising the awareness of architecture and urban space in order to improve the quality of life.

Open House Worldwide is a network of 50 organisations hosting festivals and dialogue about architecture, design and cities across the globe. In 2019, almost 1 million people participated in Open House events with nearly 2 million visits to buildings enabled by more than 18,000 volunteers. Taken together, Open House Worldwide is the largest celebration of the urban landscape in the world. The network was founded and is administered by Open City, a charity registered in the United Kingdom.

Besides photo galleries and short texts contextualising the architecture, the people and companies involved as well as some basic technical details are also listed. One can also find a list of select architectural bureaus (complete with short descriptions and contacts).
